Parks and Rec holds inaugural 5K

Fairfield Parks and Recreation will present its first ever Beach Bunny 5K the Saturday before Easter, subject to any anti-coronavirus measures taken.

The computer-timed run/walk will be family-friendly and the course will take participants through Fairfield’s beachfront neighborhood. Awards will be in the usual 10-year divisions, and for female and male overall champions. Registration will be $35, and the 5K will begin at 9:00 am and end around 10:00 am.

The Family Bunny Hop will be an untimed one-mile walk. This will be an out-and-back course following the 5K for the first half mile and returning back at Penfield Road. Registration fees, times, and location are the same as for the 5K.

Kids up to six years old are invited to attend the free Easter Egg Scramble, which will be taking place from 10:30 am until 10:45 am. The older kids from seven years old and up can join in their own Easter Egg Scramble beginning at 10:45 am and ending around 11:00 am.

Food tickets are included in the 5K and Bunny Hop. However, Egg Scramblers and spectators must purchase $10 meal tickets before they can enter the Food Truck Zone. Tickets will be good for one meal only.

Events such as these often have photographers taking pictures that the organizers can use in informational brochure printing for the following year.

The Beach Bunny 5K will be Saturday, April 11 starting at 7:45 am at Jennings Beach.
