Fairfield music aficionados who love acoustic guitar and mandolin will not want to miss an upcoming performance by Jorma Kaukonen and Barry Mitterhoff, which will be a a two-hour fun-filled jam session.
Finger-style master guitarist Jorma Kaukonen, one of the original members of Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna, will team with the mandolin player, Barry Mitterhoff for an evening of blues, rock and folk music. The two virtuosos will be combining their acoustic talents in a two-set jam session where they will be combining their musical energies, improvising, and building harmonies of folk rock, storied blues and classics from the Grateful Dead era.
Over the last three decades and more, Mr. Kaukonen has been travelling with his band, Hot Tuna, recording a dozen solo albums and running a center for guitar study with his wife at Fur Peace Ranch in Southeastern Ohio, which offers a place of tranquility and peace for instructors, students and visiting artists. Mitterhoff, while music journalists have struggle to categorize him musically, leans heavily toward bluegrass. He also has been involved in klezmer groups and has worked extensively in film and theater music. The two artists together should make interesting subjects for poster printing.
The performance is scheduled for March 14, from 7:45 pm to 11:00 pm, at the Fairfield Theater Company’s Stage One, 20 Sanford Street, Fairfield.
