Local museum holds two free July events

The Fairfield Museum will present two free concerts in mid-July – the Connecticut Symphonic Winds Concert commemorating the burning of Fairfield during the Revolutionary War, and the Fairfield County Dance Festival.

On July 10, the Connecticut Symphonic Winds, along with the Fairfield Museum, will present their annual Burning of Fairfield commemoration concert. The evening is held to remember when the 2,000 British troops landed on Fairfield Beach and raided the town of Fairfield for two days. The concert is to celebrate Fairfield citizens’ resilience.

The performance will include American classics such as the music of John Williams, and American show tunes.

The concert will be free and will run from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Fairfield Museum, 370 Beach Road.

As part of its free outdoor presentation series, the Fairfield Museum will present the Fairfield County Dance Festival coming on Wednesday, July 13 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Local musicians, artists, and dance companies will join cellist Melissa Westgate, the East Coast Contemporary Ballet and Thomas/Ortiz Dance in presenting demonstrations, master classes, and workshops. The festival will take place on the Fairfield Museum Commons.

Although the Connecticut Symphonic Winds Concert will be sponsored by CT Art Endowment, individual donations and Corporate Gifts are also necessary for museums to continue giving free admission to community cultural events.
