Library presents two chamber music performances

Fairfield Library’s chamber music trio-in-residence, The Lions Gate Trio, will be performing in a few days.

The afternoon performance - a Performance for Young Listeners – will be focusing on music that will be interesting to children in grades 3 and up. This will be an interactive workshop that will cover musical collaboration, syntax, and other elements of chamber music. Guests will be immersed in melodic perception and rhythmic play. The program will feature excerpts from trios by Brahms, Smetana, and Beethoven. Local music teachers may want to have their students mark their Calendars for this.

The Winter Concert will begin later in the afternoon when the trio will play a musical feast of well-known piano trio chamber music. These pieces will include Beethoven’s Kakadu Variations, Smetana’s G Minor Trio, and Brahms’ C Minor Trio.

The group will be under the direction of the trio’s musical director, Peter Alexander. Florence Millet will be the pianist, Katie Lansdale will be the violinist and Darrett Adkins will be playing the cello.

The children’s workshop and the Winter Concert will be Sunday, March 12 at the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road in the Memorial Room. As there is limited seating, registration is required. The workshop will begin at 1:15 pm with the concert beginning at 3:00 pm, and a reception will follow.
