Holiday trains on track for December

Fairfield Train buffs can celebrate the holidays with a visit to the Holiday Express Train Show in a few days. Model trains will wind through a winter wonderland of holiday scenery and decorated trees. A tree lighting ceremony will open the event.

‘Terrific Trains’, a workshop for children ages 6-10, will enable children to build and paint wooden model trains. Choo Choo Storytime, presented at various times, throughout the month will feature old favorite train stories, as well as new tales and Books about trains.

Two Candy House Workshops where children can decorate cracker houses with icing, gumdrops, and licorice will be presented on one Saturday in December. An after-Christmas special program, meanwhile, will feature a real steam model train running on an elevated track. Collector Harvey Campbell will be sharing his enthusiasm and knowledge about these memories of the past. Getting a picture of the little ones during this event will make possible postcard printing for next year.

The show’s opening night is December 5 and it will continue until January 4. The hour-long train building workshops start at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm, Mondays December 22 and 29, and Tuesday, December 30. The Candy House workshop will be Saturday, December 10 at 11:00 am and noon. The steam trains can be seen December 26, from 11:00 am – 3:30:00 pm, all at the Fairfield Museum and History Center.
