The Memorial Day festivities will be in full swing again this year.
To kick things off, the men and boys of St. Paul’s Church will be holding their Annual Memorial Day Pancake Breakfast followed, by the traditional parade. This year’s Memorial Day Parade will remember the First Gulf War by commemorating its 25th anniversary.
Crowds will be milling around the Town Hall Green before the parade to enjoy the thousands of sausages, pancakes, and beverages that will be available at St. Paul’s. All those who have served in the armed forces will receive their breakfasts free. Proceeds will go to an as-of-yet unspecified outreach program. Some recipients in the past have been Fairfield’s bicycle program Wheels of Hope, Port au Prince’s Holy Trinity Elementary School, and Habitat for Humanity.
The parade will march east on Post Road until it gets to the library. Then it will turn south again on Old Post Road until it reaches Flint’s Corner. It will then turn east and pass the Town Green and continue on past South Benson Road. Units may want to bring Banners to introduce themselves.
St. Paul’s Church is at 661 Old Post Road. The breakfast will start at 7:00 am on Monday, May 30, and end around noon. The parade will step off at the Old Town Hall at 10:00 am. As in the past, it will take place rain or shine.
