Area high school bands, dance groups and civic and local organizations are beginning to get ready for The 26th Stamford Downtown Parade Spectacular coming at the end of November.
As in prior years, the parade will usher in the holiday season. Stamford Advocate/Hearst Media will present it and Stamford Downtown Special Services District will be the host. This procession usually draws over 200,000 spectators.
Returning favorite giant helium balloons will include Clifford the Big Red Dog, Mr. Potato Head, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Scooby-Doo, King Fu Panda, Elmo, and Bob the Builder. Butler Golden Tornado Marching Band, The University of New Haven Chargers Marching Band, The NYPD Emerald Society, and the Fairfield County Police Pipe & Drum Corps will be among the 10 bands that will be marching. This year’s Master of Ceremonies will be Alan Katter.
Stamford Parade Spectacular will step off November 24 at noon. The route will be in Stamford’s downtown section from the intersection of Hoyt Street and Summer Street to Broad Street and end on Atlantic Street.
A pre-parade Balloon Inflation Party will be held the Saturday before on November 23 from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the Summer and Hoyt Streets intersection. Fairfield spectators can watch the balloons rise, meet cartoon characters, visit parade talent, and enjoy live music.
Towns that have giant parades like this usually have a photographer taking pictures that can be used in the town’s future visitor guide brochure printing.
