Fairfield bikers invited to the CT Challenge

The Connecticut Challenge Bike Ride will be coming up at the end of July. This event has 651 riders already signed up, and if it turns out anything like past years, there will be more than 2,000 participants.

Riders can join individually, join an already existing team, or create a team of their own when they register. At registration, they can choose which distance they will be riding. The choices are a 10, 25, 50, 75, or 100-mile ride. Along with the fee, each ride has a fundraising commitment. The 10-mile and 25-mile runs have a $500 commitment, while the longer ones have a $700 one. The ‘Road Warrior’, or $3,000 commitment, can be done with the 10-mile and 25-mile distances.

The Ct Challenge is a nonprofit organization started by Fairfield native Jeff Keith back in 2005. Its purpose is to raise funds for local and national cancer survivors’ programs. From each dollar raised by this year’s race participants, 84¢ will go to support these programs.

Spectators from Fairfield and surrounding towns may want to have some banner printing done soon in order to have material ready to encourage their favorite riders along the course.

The ride will begin at the Fairfield Count Hunt Club at 174 Long Lots Road, Westport on July 29th and 30th. Times vary and will be given upon registration.
