Greater Connecticut Youth Orchestras will perform five times over the winter months.
First will be the concerto competition starting at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 2020. Contestants will be from members of the Principal Orchestra. Each musician will perform one concerto movement before a panel of judges. The winner will get to give a solo performance at the Klein’s Spring Concert on May 17th. This free event will be held at Sacred Heart University’s WSHU Studios.
Parents of winners of competitions such as this usually have pictures taken of their rising-star. The photos are often taken to nearby Print shops to be made into duplicates for family and friends.
On Saturday, February 29, two concerts are scheduled for the Klein. The first will be Jazz II, Wind, String, and Concert Orchestras performing at 2:00 pm. The second will be Cirque de la Symphonie starting at 7:00 pm. The 100-piece Principal Orchestra will be providing music for strongmen, contortionists, and aerialists as they present their acts from Cirque de la Symphonie.
Sunday, March 1st, the Klein will present two more GCTO concerts. At 1:00 pm the Bravura and Symphony orchestras, Jazz I and Percussion will hold their performance and a repeat of Cirque de la Symphonie will begin at 5:00 pm.
The GCTO features 10 music ensembles comprised of area youth. They rehearse Saturday mornings, usually at the Tomlinson Middle School here in town.
The Klein Auditorium is located at 910 Fairfield Avenue, Bridgeport.
