The Barnum Festival Cornhole Tournament will have its first run towards the end of January.
The four-hour event promises to be a one-of-a-kind experience with “corny” rules such as handicapping one side to wear oven mitts mid-match and switching scores after an incredible shot.
The grand prize will be the honor of driving the winner’s car in the Barnum Festival Great Street Parade coming in July. Poster printing signifying the winning team’s achievement will decorate the sides of the vehicle.
The format for the tournament will be three round-robin games followed by a single elimination round. Although the event will be BYOB (bring your own booze), two drink tickets and pizzas will be provided.
Tickets will be $80 per team. Proceeds from the event will go to the Barnum Festival, which is a seasonal celebration of city leader and world-renowned showman P.T. Barnum, local businesses, and the Greater Bridgeport region including Fairfield. The festival is celebrating its 75th year with events including Meet the Ringmaster George Estrada (inaugurated back in November 2022), the Tom Thumb and Lavinia Warren competition, King and Queen Coronation, Whip Whistle and Watch, the Ringmaster’s Ball, and Wingding. Other activities will include fireworks and the Parade of Champions.
The 2023 Barnum Festival Cornhole Tournament will be Saturday, January 21, starting at 6:30 pm at the fieldhouse at SportsPlex@ Fairfield, 85 Mill Plain Road.
