Club to host its centennial

It will soon be time for Fairfield horticulturists, and those who simply love all things floral, to celebrate the beauty of the season.

In a just over a week, the Garden Club of American Flower Show will once again be unveiling many aspects of local horticulture. This year’s theme will be ‘The Best of Times’. The event will be open to the public and free of charge.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Fairfield Garden Club, and this centennial show will be dedicated to all those previous members as a nod to their passion and hard work.

The show itself will have a threefold purpose. First and foremost, it will share the beauty of horticulture with the town of Fairfield, but it also hopes to broaden everyone’s knowledge of horticulture, conservation floral design, and photography. Finally, it hopes to set standards for horticultural and artistic excellence.

The event will be a celebration of traditional horticulture, floral design and display, conservation, garden history, and photography. Awards will be given in those five divisions. Photographers will want to get a myriad of pictures for later poster or postcard printing.

Exhibitors will have their entries on display on Saturday, April 17, and the public can view the results Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19 at the Burr Homestead, 739 Old Post Road, Fairfield.
