Golden to offer hiking excursion on local mountain

The Golden History Museum & Park will hold an activity in August where people can go on a guided expedition on the South Table Mountain.

The South Table Mountain Hike is an event where nature lovers can enjoy a group hike while learning about the mountain from two experienced guides. The excursion is led by Mary Elizabeth Eiberger and Kermit Shields. Eiberger was a high school teacher for subjects like outdoor education and currently works as a tutor. Shields is a petroleum geologist who volunteers with Dinosaur Ridge and the JeffCo Open Space. He was also featured in an article by Dan Daru on the history of Colorado’s wildlife.

There are several rules that participants in the excursion must follow, such as not bringing dogs to the event. Service dogs are an exception. Attendees are not allowed to feed the wildlife on the trail or cause damage to any wildlife habitat features. Visitors may not go down undesignated paths because they may accidentally cross into private property or degrade the mesa ecology. Littering on the trail is also against the rules.

The mountain hike will be held on August 26th from 8:30 am to 10:30 am. The cost to take part in the trip is $12 per person, though members of the Golden History Museum & Park may attend the event for $5. The difficulty of the hike will range from easy to moderate. Museums in charge of similar expeditions may use poster printing to let their patrons know about the events in advance.
