Golden to offer course on wilderness first aid

Backcountry Pulse will be holding a first aid course in July at the American Mountaineering Center in Golden.

The 16-hour Hybrid Wilderness First Aid class is a program where people can learn how to anticipate risks and initiate basic care while outdoors. Several topics will be taught in the course, including how to perform a basic physical exam, wound management, and patient lift and transfers. The program will use a combination of engaging lectures and hands-on activities to teach students the first aid procedures. The class will conclude with a final exam.

Backcountry Pulse is a wilderness medicine education organization that offers a wide variety of courses. Some of the classes include Basic Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Wilderness Advanced First Aid. The CEO of the company is Raquel Sapp, an experienced outdoorswoman who is also an advanced life support emergency medical services (EMS) provider. Sapp has spoken at the Continental Divide Research Learning Center and was a presenter for the National Park Service.

The hybrid course will be held from Saturday, July 29 to Sunday, July 30. It will cost $225 for members of the Colorado Mountain Club and $245 for non-members. Those who register will get an email containing the course schedule. Organizations that hold first aid programs like this may use poster printing to advertise their health classes to the public.
