Runners here in Arvada may begin the new year by participating in the 12th annual Polar Prowl 5k, 10k, or half marathon coming in mid-January.
The course will be on the relatively flat Van Bibber Creek Trail, giving runners a view of Table Mountain and Arvada’s open spaces.
The half marathon will cost $80.50 and will begin at 9:00 am, while the 10k will cost $59.50 and begin 10 minutes later at 9:10 am. The 5k is $48.70 and starts at 9:20 am. There are also virtual options.
Swag will include beanies, finisher medals, souvenir race bibs, a post-race meal, and entry into the penguin-themed costume contest. Races that distribute souvenir bibs often have them imprinted with the event logo at nearby Print shops.
Little ones may run the Penguin Waddle for $11.60, for which the winner will receive a custom medal and Penguins International gift. This race will begin at 8:45 am.
The Penguin Prowl race is one part of the Run Amok Winter Series that also includes the All-Out Mardi Crawl coming in February. Runners may receive a 25% discount when registering for both races.
Race packets will be available Thursday, January 9 at Arvada Tri, 14715 W 64th Avenue from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm, and on race day beginning at 8:15 am at the race site.
The Polar Prowl will be Saturday, January 11, 2025 at the Strenger Sports Complex, 11200 W 58th Avenue.
