Arvada goes and flies kites

Arvada Festivals Commission will be flying high in mid-April with its annual Arvada Kite Festival.

Colorful kites will be soaring overhead all day to welcome spring. Guests may bring their own kites or buy them on site. Music will add to the springlike ambiance, Rocky Mountain Kite Association will be giving kite demonstrations, and kids can enjoy inflatables and get their faces painted.

More than 70 local vendors will be on hand selling their goods and services. Many vendors often have their Logo Design printed on the Packaging of items that they sell. The venue will also have food trucks.

Everyone is invited to bring their own blankets and chairs to sit on and relax as they watch the overhead festivities.

Parking will be first come, first served and gates will open at 9:45 am at the Stenger Sports Complex, 11200 W 58 Avenue, Sunday, April 16. The event will run from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

The Majestic View Nature Center, 7030 Garrison Street, will hold “Let’s Go Fly! Make-A-Kite” Classes will be on Friday, April 14 from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm; Saturday, April 15 beginning at 4:00 pm; and Sunday, April 16 until 5:00 pm.

After a short discussion on animal and plant flight, guests who are six years old and up will build and decorate sled kites. Admission will be $5.
