What's Happening in Tustin, CA…

After years in the works, the 32 acres of land located at Tustin Legacy have finally been turned into the Veterans Sports Park.

Not surprisingly amid COVID-19, there was little fanfare when the city announced that the park was opening on a Facebook post near the end of last month. They had plans to unveil the park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, although that has been postponed.

The park cost almost $20m to renovate and it now has fields for soccer, tennis, racquetball, basketball, pickleball, volleyball, football, and softball. A memorial was erected in the park’s Lansdowne Road entrance to pay homage to the city’s military veterans. Banner printing can be used as part of such displays.

The memorial was designed with help from a veterans’ group. It is an obelisk with five sides that represent each branch of the military. An eagle sits on top of a mosaic star on the monument's peak. Each of the stars points to a memorial with the names of residents from Tustin who died in service to their country.

Tustin Legacy is situated on 1,600 acres of land that used to be a Marine Corps Air Station. The land is now a mixed-use planning community that has been evolving in stages since the station closed.

The city is tasked with being Tustin Legacy’s master planner. It plans to lay down modern infrastructure before selling it bit by bit to housing and commercial developers. Each completed project will fund the next one.
