Popular pastime to serve as focus of social event

A hobby loved by many is being celebrated with a gathering in late January that Tustin residents will surely get a thrill from.

Brick Convention is an event for Lego fans to experience incredible builds and meet people who also have a love for the colorful building bricks. Greyson J. Riley, the founder of the event, started putting similar conventions together when he was just 14. Now, Brick Convention makes appearances in several cities annually.

The gathering allows fans to meet experts, as well as a few of the competitors from the Fox show “Lego Masters.” Many builders will also have pieces of their work on display. Past exhibits have included several well-known characters from pop culture, cityscapes, art pieces, and landscapes.

There are also areas with interactive elements, allowing guests to contribute to a display, or just build away. Vendors will be selling an array of minifigures and other themed products.

There are two timeslots for the show on both days, allowing for crowd management and a calmer experience. The cost for everyone aged three and up is $15 when bought before the event. Tickets will also be available at the doorway if the timeslot is not full, with an increased rate of $18. Merchandise items can be added on to online purchases for $8.50.

The venue will be Costa Mesa’s OC Fair & Event Center. Many conventions, as well as attending vendors, will use flyer printing prior to the event to advertise. The entry times are 11:30 am and 3:00 pm on both January 27 and 28.
