Stockton residents are once again being invited to bring some cheer to troops this holiday season.
The Holiday Cards for Our Troops program sends Holiday Cards that contain personally written notes to military members, both those who are at home and those men and women who are deployed or on an overseas posting. Each has a special message that says “thank you for your service to our country” to the recipient.
Jerry McNerney, who oversees the project, remarked that he has often been told by those who receive these notes from home that they are very much appreciated, and that they help to raise their morale when they cannot be with their friends and families.
Each card that will be going abroad will be placed in a package that has been put together by East Bay Blue Star Moms, Contra Costa Blue Star Moms, and A Million Thanks.
Anyone who wishes to take part can do so by using Holiday Cards that they have made themselves or purchased. They can then handwrite a special message for the service member who will receive it. One completed, they can be dropped off to McNerney’s Stockton office, which is located at 2222 Grand Canal Blvd, Suite 7, by no later than November 6. It is asked that they be unaddressed and unsealed.
