Barnes & Noble, one of the leading American retail booksellers, made an announcement in early June that may mean employees from its 208,000 sq ft building in Palo Alto will need to investigate updated business card printing; based on a press release issued by the company, staff will be relocated from Palo Alto to two separate facilities.
Many employees will be moving to a Santa Clara facility, while digital education workers will enjoy a new site in Mountain View. This move is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2015.
The CEO of Barnes & Noble, Michael P. Huseby, said that the move is an important step in the company’s continued efforts to “rationalize” – as well as “better equip” – the organization’s NOOK e-reader in its efforts to achieve success.
According to a conversation Huseby had with a reporter at the Silicon Valley Business Journal, Barnes & Noble remains very committed to the NOOK, but did say that when the device was originally conceived, Barnes & Noble anticipated building more of the hardware internally, and that the company is now shifting towards software development.
He stated that a new COO and executive vice president of marketing and digital content were focusing on innovating a new look, and moving towards having it available on all tablet platforms.
