Santa Clara college band to give winter performance

A band from the Santa Clara College of Arts and Sciences will hold a concert in March at the Music Recital Hall.

The Winter Jazz Band and Combos Festival is a program where audience members can enjoy live performances from the talented students of Santa Clara College. Guests will see different combinations of students innovate on stage with jazz improvisations while exploring new music compositions. There will also be covers of famous jazz hits. The performers are from the college’s Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo courses.

The professor in charge of both jazz classes at the university is Carl Schultz, a saxophonist from the Philadelphia area who became the Director of Jazz Studies at Santa Clara College. He is also an experienced historian, composer, and solo musician. Schultz was educated at SUNY Purchase College and The University of The Arts. He has performed with many groups, such as Norman David and the Eleventet, Brad Goode’s Polytonal Big Band, and The Lars Halle Orchestra.

The jazz performances will take place on Wednesday, March 4th and Thursday, March 5th. The shows will start at 7:00 pm on both evenings. General admission will cost $22 per adult, though seniors, students, and college employees will receive a discount on their ticket prices.
