Santa Ana hosts event to honor local culture

A community in Santa Ana will be put into the spotlight with a mid-August event.

The Chicano Heritage Festival is a celebration of Mexican American culture and its history in the city. This year marks the third annual appearance of the festival. Features of the experience include a space for children, live music, speeches, a market, food, an art show, displays and exhibits, carnival rides, and a car parade and show. The city’s staff for special events are behind the organization of the festival.

For art and car exhibitors and vendors, applications are accepted through July 22. Artists’ work must in some way highlight the culture of the Chicano. Up to five individual pieces are allowed per participant. Every type of applicant will be required to provide some additional documents; the specifics will depend on which area people are applying to take part in. Details are available alongside the Forms for the initial process on the city’s website.

The festival is open to attendance for everyone, and parking is available throughout the venue. Flyer printing is a popular promotion technique for festivals and other city-hosted activities.

The celebration is being held at Centennial Park. The entrance and access to the main parking area will be opened at 12:00pm. The festival will run between 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Sunday, August 11.
