The Yonder Mountain String Band (YMSB) is a folk-rock-bluegrass-and-more band that refuses to fit neatly into any category. Although their instruments and much of their work would seem to put them into the bluegrass column, their sound is uniquely their own.
Bluegrass is traditionally an acoustic sound, but the band has added elements of rock, and their own improvisation, to the bluegrass foundation. In doing so, they have attracted devoted fans who often follow the group as it tours the country.
In 2017, the Colorado-based group released their album “Love. Ain't Love,” which yielded songs like “Alison,” and “Chasing My Tail.” Rolling Stone called the album:
“. . . modern bluegrass . . . punctuated by genre-jumping excursions into world music, reggae and all points in between.”
Fans agree. A review of YMSB live said:
“Yonder Mountain String Band are much more than your typical North American bluegrass ensemble, with their incorporation of everything from jazzy reggae, rock and even metal influences . . . into their unique brand of string-driven, energetic jams.”
The Yonder Mountain String Band is set to appear at the Great American Music Hall on September 26, at 9:00 pm. Brochure printing can be used to create programs for this type of event.
