Talented Scottish singer to play San Francisco
A Scottish musician with a background in law and journalism is on the way to San Francisco.
A native of Thornhill, Stirling, Scotland, Lauren Mayberry learned to play the piano as a child and the drums as a teenager. She has an undergraduate law degree and a master’s degree in journalism. In 2010, she received the Royal Environmental Health Institute for Scotland Journalism Award, leading to her work as a freelance journalist, and in production running.
Mayberry was with Chvrches, a pop band, where she, Iain Cook, Martin Doherty, co-wrote and produced the group’s songs, with Mayberry singing lead vocals. Chvrches got started in 2011, when Doherty and Cook began work on a project, with Mayberry doing vocals on demos. The three determined the sessions were a success, and established the band.
They were signed by Glassnote Records in 2013, after previously releasing the tracks “The Mother We Share” and “Lies.” That year they released an EP and album, both debut efforts. The EP was “Recover” and the album was “The Bones of What You Believe.” She announced her intention to release solo work in 2023. A review says:
Her current tour supports her new album “Vicious Creature” and will bring her to The Fillmore in San Franisco on January 29. When they plan events like this, organizers often use poster printing to advertise them.
