San Francisco Performances announces season at Hotel Rex

San Francisco Performances (SFP), an organization begun in 1979 that presents independent music events throughout the Bay Area, has revealed its Hotel Rex programs.

The upcoming schedule of shows at the Salons at the Hotel Rex is a series of one-hour recitals. These are given in a small, 75-seat room, with an ambiance that is reminiscent of literary and artistic salon gatherings held in the city in the 1930s. After the program, the performers have traditionally participated in a question-and-answer session with audience members.

SFP presents instrumental and vocal recitals, chamber music, contemporary dance, and jazz, played by both acclaimed artists, and those whose careers are just beginning. SFP also commissions new works and is committed to giving programs that can influence development in the arts.

The first performance of the Salon at the Hotel Rex series is slated for this evening. The artist is guitarist Julian Lage, who is now a resident artist with the SFP. He has performed both jazz and bluegrass music, and will give a solo recital.

There are seven programs in the Hotel Rex series, all of them on Wednesday nights except for one Thursday performance, on January 28, 2016. Further information about the recitals is on the SFP website. The Hotel Rex is on Sutter Street.
