City of the Sun first got together in 2011 in New York City. Its founding members were John Pita, who has remained with the group, and a vocalist who remained only briefly. Avi Snow and Zach Para joined later, completing the current lineup.
The trio developed their distinctive sound with influences from indie rock, flamenco, gypsy jazz, and post-rock, and honed it to perfection busking on the city streets. Their public performances got them noticed, and in 2014, they dropped “Live at the Factory,” a live EP. During that same year, they played to sold-out audiences in iconic New York City venues such as the Gramercy Theatre and the Rockwood Music Hall.
Chesky Records signed them in 2015, and released their debut album, “To The Sun And All The Cities In Between,” in 2016. In 2020, they released “City of the Sun,” their second full-length album.

“We don’t get much instrumental rock these days… Yeah, lyrics can make it easier to convey mood/meaning, but if you can do that with just a sonic landscape, you’re a true master of your art. And City of the Sun are shaping up to be master artisans.”
City of the Sun will be at The Independent on Divisadero Street on April 26. Striking advertisements can draw people to events like this and can be created when organizers use poster printing.
