Sacramento Youth Jazz bands get own festival

The Sacramento Traditional Jazz Youth Band Festival will be held a few weeks earlier this year. The non-competitive festival will be a scholastic jazz experience for Sacramento youth jazz bands to perform and be evaluated by distinguished jazz musicians and educators. The focus will be on Hot Jazz an American early musical form.

The bands will be playing in three venues. The panels of judges will give immediate feedback after each performance. Other activities will be two jazz workshops and two jam sessions. Clinics will be conducted throughout the day.

At noon the festival will provide a free Jazz ‘n’ Pizza mentored jam session for the students and the band directors. The evening will have a clinician-led jam session, Award/Scholarship presentations and command performances.

The festival will close with a concert performed by the Festival Clinicians Band showcasing Jon-Erik Kellso, a New York trumpeter.

Each band student, band director and one parent will get complementary admission to the STJS “Jazz Sunday.” The all-star Clinicians Band will be performing at the Riverside Elks Lodge.
Festivals such as these are often promoted using Flyers and poster printing in and around local venues.
The Festival will be presented at Capistrano Hall, Sacramento State University 6000 J Street, Sacramento February 11th, 2017 starting at 8:00 am. The concert will be 7:00 pm. The Jazz Sunday concert will run from noon until 5 pm. Photos of the bands will be available for sale.
