Sacramento to gear music event around families

The Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society will be sponsoring this weekend’s 2016 Sacramento Music Festival.

Live music will be playing all day and all night as more than 100 dance, party and tribute bands perform over the four-day period.

There will be street dancing, food, a parade, and plenty of beverages. Multiple venues, ranging from small clubs to a large area that will be able to accommodate 3,500 people, will be entertaining fans. A special site called ‘Next Generation Band’ will feature local and regional youth jazz bands.

Since 1974, when the event was called the Old Sacramento Dixieland Jazz Jubilee, the streets of Old Sacramento and Downtown venues have celebrated Memorial Day weekend with music. Along with the jazz, blues, rock, and dance bands that have graced the festival in the past, this year’s offerings will add soulful and rocking blues, swing, zydeco and Cajun, rockabilly, country, and Latin. It will also have New Orleans street beat, ragtime, orchestra, and banjo performances.

Some featured artists will be Queen Nation, Pablo Cruise, Mumbo Gumbo, Dave Bennett and the Memphis Speed Kings, Frobeck, and High Street. Local poster printing companies may be sought to ensure fans can take a souvenir home with them.

The event will take place throughout the weekend in 15 sites throughout Old Sacramento. Three of the more luxury sites will be the Embassy Suites, the Holiday Inn, and the Delta King riverboat.
