Sacramento seminar to teach educators about alternative consequences

Leaving The Village will host a two-day workshop in Sacramento to show educators how to handle misbehaving students.

Restorative Practices: Transforming Traditional Consequences is a program that aims to combat negative behaviors in students by changing how educators approach consequences. The first day of the workshop will discuss the downsides of using suspension as a punishment for children, and highlight the importance of working with parents to help their kids make better decisions.

The second day will teach attendees about implementing frameworks that change student behaviors, and using objective questioning to help children reflect on their behavior. The presentation will also detail how schools can incorporate teachers, parents, and relevant community members in their efforts to improve student behaviors.

Kelvin Oliver will be the presenter for the workshop. He is an education consultant with experience as a campus administrator, special education teacher, and assistant principal. Oliver also worked as a district curriculum specialist. Consultants like this can use business card printing to provide their contact info to clients.

The presentation on transforming traditional consequences will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Sacramento from Monday, November 14 to Tuesday, November 15. The cost to register for the full workshop is $450 per person, and the price of attending a single day is $225. Reduced rates will be given to those who register early or in groups of two or more people.
