The second annual Sacratomato Festival will be celebrating all things red and juicy in an effort to bring together Sacramento’s diversity of people for a fun afternoon.
The event will present many aspects of our local tomato agriculture, and guests will be able to purchase foods with the red fruit as a key ingedient. This will be the culmination of Sacratomato Week, where restaurants and other food establishments in the Sutter District will showcase the tomato in meals, drinks, and desserts.
A farmers’ market with a wide variety of locally grown tomatoes, lots of cooking demonstrations, and gourmet and specialty products from the area’s small businesses and restaurants will be on the site. Crafters and artisans will also feature tomato-centric items for sale, and will no doubt want to get their business card printing done in plenty of time for this event.
Children will be able to enjoy their own “tomato patch” and other hands-on activities. Live music will be part of the afternoon, too. The Sacramento Food Coop will host its Tomato University where guests can taste and learn about many different types of tomatoes in classes taught by Blue Heron Farms. Festival goers will get to choose a tomato at one unique stand, and the proprietor will cut the tomato for them to taste.
This festival is scheduled for Saturday, July 25, starting at 4:00 pm and ending at 8:00 pm in the Sutter’s District at Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park, 2701 L Street, Sacramento.
