The Sacramento Ballet, the only professional ballet in the area, will be performing this year’s last production of Tchaikovsky’s ballet ‘The Nutcracker’ a few days before Christmas. More than 500 children will be in the cast.
Patrons return year after year to view Clara and her beloved Nutcracker Prince as they encounter the Giant Mouse King and journey through the Kingdom of Sweets and Snowflake Forest. The production has costumes and sets that more than match the magical dance and music, with many scenes reminiscent of pictures seen on Holiday Cards.
Two performances will be offered on the final day. Both will be accompanied by the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra and will last two hours.
Before the matinee performance, there will be a free pre-performance called ‘Unwrapping the Presents Beneath the Tree: A look behind the scenes’. An hour and a half before the show, ticketholders are invited to attend a sneak peek at the last onstage company class and watch the stagehands get ready for the performance. Guests can meet the Sugar Plum Fairy, chat with the artistic directors, and learn about the production and the ballet.
The final performances will be Friday, December 23 at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm at the Sacramento Community Center Theatre, 1301 L Street, Sacramento. The pre-performance will be from 12:30 to 1:15 pm.
