What's Happening in Sacramento, CA…

California Duck Days, Northern California’s wildlife and wetlands annual festival, is slated for the end of February.

This will be a collaborative effort of the Yolo Basin Foundation, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, California Waterfowl, Yolo Audubon Society, and 100 City of Davis Centennial. The event will feature field trips, onsite activities for all ages, and workshops.

Field trips around the area will include ‘Local Owling’, ‘Sacramento Valley Refuges’, ‘Yolo County Birding Hotspots’, ‘Canoe Trip at Lake Solano’, ‘Central Valley Raptor’, and ‘Birding for Beginners’. Guests may opt for the ‘Putah Creek Wildlife Area Hike’, ‘Rice Farming First Hand’ or the ‘East Delta Birding’ field trip. There will be a two-hour Falconry demonstration and a Bird Dog demo.

Workshops will include duck calling, waterfowl identification, decoy painting, bats, feather function and water testing. There will also be waterfowl watercolor, owl pellets and wildlife photography.

Activities for kids include a passport adventure, fly tying, close encounter with ducklings, and raptors. The pond will have trout fishing and pond exploration.

Nature enthusiasts from here in Sacramento will want to mark their Calendars for February 25tThe festival will be held at Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area Headquarters, 45211 County Road 32B, Davis, CA. The onsite portion of the event will begin at 9:00 am and run until 3:00 pm. Field trip times will vary.
