What's Happening in Sacramento, CA…

Sacramento will be bringing back the Urban Cow running weekend in October to help benefit community running programs.

The 17th annual Urban Cow is a racing event where participants can compete in either a half marathon or a 5K run/walk. There will also be a running activity designated for children during the weekend. The organizers will use staggered start times to help enforce safety procedures at the race. Aid stations will be positioned throughout the running course to provide athletes with water and lemon-lime Gatorade. Each registered runner is given a microfiber race shirt and a cowbell finisher medal.

Money raised from the event will help youth running programs conducted by non-profit organizations, including Girls on the Run, the Buffalo Chips Youth Running Club, and Running for Rhett. The American River Parkway Foundation will also receive a portion of the weekend’s proceeds. The foundation helps maintain the park where several running groups train. Groups holding athletic fundraisers like this may advertise their special activities outdoors via banner printing.

The children’s running activity and run/walk will take place on October 2, while the half marathon will occur on October 3. All Urban Cow events will be held at William Land Park. Registration for the marathon costs $74, and guests must pay $45 to join the run/walk. People can also register for both events with a bundle for $109. All prices will increase as the race days get closer.
