Early next month, the Ka’Onohi Foundation will present its sixth annual Aloha Festival.
The event will be a celebration of Hawaiian culture, and will include food and merchandise vendors, resource exhibitors, a cultural village, and entertainment. More than 10,000 people are expected to attend.
The resource area will have booths of organizations and businesses exhibitors offering education, health, finance, safety, and community resources. Many will be passing out Flyers that will describe their missions and services.
The Cultural Village will have workshops, the first of which will be on the ukulele. Attendees will need to bring their own instruments. Also, Faye Miller will be presenting two workshops on how to make tea-leaf roses and wristlets. An afternoon hula workshop will be presented by Kumu Hula Blaine.
The Aloha fabric flower making activity, coloring, balloon artists, storytelling, dress-up area, and hula implements will be held all day.
No fewer than 20 cultural performances will be on two stages. Entertainment will be the likes of hula demonstrations, Hawaiian bands, ukulele soloists, and Polynesian dancers.
Paʻa ʻĀlana, a traditional Hawaiian academic researcher and tattoo artist, will be presenting a lecture on histories of Hawaiian traditional tattooing. He will be demonstrating these ancient techniques on a live model.
The festival is slated for Saturday, October 1, at Cal Expo, 1600 Exposition Blvd., Sacramento and will begin at 9:00 am. It will wrap up sometime around 6:00 pm.
