Greek classic tale to hit the big screen

Sacramento locals looking for escapism this time of year might want to attend a showing of the 1963 family friendly movie ‘Jason and the Argonaut’.

This will be a movie that will retell the Greek tale surrounding Jason and his desire to obtain the Golden Fleece, which he believes will bestow upon him kingship and authority.

The 101-minute adventure movie was directed by Don Chaffey and stars Todd Armstrong, Honor Blackman, Nancy Kovack, and Gary Raymond. The tale begins with the story of Jason’s birth. It then jumps twenty years into the future as the young man assembles a crew to man the ship Argo, to be used to search for and obtain the Golden Fleece. The rest of the movie tells of the adventures along the way.

The film was noteworthy for cutting-edge special effects at the time, particularly some of the stop-motion animations sequences in rendering creatures such as the Hydra, Talos, and The Harpies. Also, local band ‘Swimming in Bengal’ will be giving a performance in the lobby prior to the show.

The movie will be shown at the Crest Theatre, 1013 K Street, Sacramento, on Sunday, February 28, running from 6:30 pm until 9:00 pm. The price of admission will be $10 general admission and $8 for seniors and children.
