What's Happening in Sacramento, CA…

For all fruitful folk in Sacramento, the 5th Annual Sacramento Banana Festival will once again be in full swing in a couple of weeks.

This two-day event will celebrate the different African, Asian, and American cultures that infuse the banana into their food, culture, and art. It will benefit the National Academic Youth Corp.

Activities will include a fashion show, salsa and line dancing, youth art exhibits, rides for the children, and a banana-split eating contest. Other contests will be held for a banana bake-off, hat contest, and banana pageant.

The Chef’s Challenge theme this year will be edible centerpieces, and it cannot be done by half measures; it must have a circus theme, be at least two feet tall and one foot wide, and be at least 85% edible.

Dole, the largest banana supplier to the U.S., will be bringing its ‘Peel the Love Summer Banana Cabana Tour’ to the proceedings. Its painted van will be distributing free recipes, coupons, giveaways, and samples. Simultaneously, the Laguna Creek Lions will host a banana pancake breakfast, and there will be food venders selling everything related to the yellow fruit.

The venue will offer colorful subjects for photos for future poster printing, with entertainment consisting of the Velocity Circus Troupe and 21 other singers, dancers, and musical ensembles.

The event will be held in Sacramento at William Land Park, Village Green Area, over the weekend of August 9 and 10, from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.
