Very soon, the Sacramento Children’s Chorus will be giving two performances of its holiday concert called ‘Joy is Everywhere’.
The chorus, composed of local children from ages 1 to 19, is a Sacramento-based nonprofit organization that was started in 1993. The concert will feature more than 150 children signing and performing various holiday tunes, all directed by Lynn Stevens and Melanie Huber.
The Children’s Chorus is made up of singers from around the area who have been admitted through competitive auditions held throughout the year. The children will be accompanied by a variety of instruments from around the world. These will range from familiar items such as the piano and dulcimer, to some less well-known ones like the koto from Japan.
In addition to familiar tunes, the children will also be performing songs such as Latvian carols and some better-known ones from the UK and Ireland. Those parents whose children will be involved may want to include information about the performances in holiday newsletter printing.
The two concerts will be given Saturday and Sunday, December 5 and 6. The first will take place from 7:30 pm until 9:30 pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1300 N Street, Sacramento. The second will take place from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Carmichael Seventh Day Adventist Church, 4600 Winding Way, Sacramento. Both will cost $30 for preferred seating, $17 general, and $12 for students.
