E-retail giant Amazon has recently announced its plans to build a 10th fulfillment center in California, with this one being located in Sacramento.
To be situated across the river from West Sacramento, it is Amazon's fourth new facility plan revealed in as many months and is anticipated to provide an additional 1,000 full-time hourly jobs. According to Amazon, the Sacramento fulfillment center will be 855,000 square feet in area and will be used for picking, Packaging, and shipping of small items such as toys, Books, and electronics.
Akash Chauhan, Vice President of Operations for Amazon North America, credits the volume of customers in the Golden State as well, as its exceptional workforce, for the company’s ongoing California expansion. According to Chauhan, the company employs over 14,000 Californians in the fulfillment centers already operational across the state.
Restaurants, retail establishments, and entertainment venues, along with other companies, will likely want to gear up as the date of the opening of the fulfillment center approaches. Reevaluating promotional options, as well as recordkeeping technology such as document scanning, will likely take place.
Roberta MacGlashan, the chairperson for the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors, said the fulfillment center announcement and the employment opportunity it represented was welcome news for the County. On the other side of the Sacramento River, officials in West Sacramento would likely agree.
