The Riverside 2017 Riverside Dickens Festival will really rev up on opening day later in the month. Admission to these festivities will be free.
There will be musicians, storytellers, Scottish and Irish dancing, along with traditional Irish and Celtic music and can-can dancers. Princess Petunia’s Players will be presenting outrageous skits, and Quartermaster will be gracing the crowd with sea shanties and rowdy pub songs. Passersby will want to be wary of the English Peelers, who will be throwing unsuspecting suspects into their stockade.
Authors, including Mark Twain, H.G. Wells ,and Mary Shelley will be sharing opinions at Hyde Park Corner. St. James Square will teem with educational environments that will include Victorian manners experts, games and readings, blacksmith demonstrations, hand writing readings, Victorian handicrafts, quilting demos, and an airship cockpit replica.
Guests can enjoy enjoy a London Marketplace, games, storytelling, dress-up photos, and tea parties in Oliver’s Alley. There will be the Trial of John Wilkes Booth and the Great Dickens Character Parade. Pictures of the parade would surely make interesting subjects for personal Stationery or future poster printing. The evening will end with Mr. Fezziwig’s Ball.
Opening day for the festival will be February 25.The festival itself will run February 25 and 26 in downtown Riverside and around the square. It will start at 9:45 am both days.
