Riverside to host herb walk

The Blue Wind School of Botanical Studies will be presenting a Spring edition of its Edible & Medicinal Plants of Riverside County: Herb Walk next month.

The Riverside County region has a surprising abundance of edible and medicinal plants. Topics to be covered over the upcoming walk will be plant identification, legal and ethical harvesting, preparation and processing methods, utilitarian uses, plant toxicology, and plant conservation. Other topics will be at-risk species, plant family characteristics, and regional ethnobotany.

The instructor will be Tellur Fenner, a plant educator and researcher. The walk will be a six-mile jaunt over two to four moderately difficult miles, with frequent stops taking place for identifying and discussing plant life.

Walkers are to bring lunches, notebooks, water, sunscreen, cameras, hats, and rain gear. People that bring cameras to events such as this sometimes send their pictures to stationery printers to be printed onto personalized stationery or notecards as a keepsake.

The hike will take place rain or shine, unless the weather becomes extreme, such as torrential rain, flooding, high winds, or severe heat. Tickets are $50 each and the class will be limited to 30 hikers.

The Herb Walk will take place Saturday, March 6th from 10am until 4pm at a location near Moreno Valley. The exact location and directions will be emailed to registered participants.
