The Mayor’s Ball and the Summer Street Jam will be combined this year, with the two events joining forces to form one large ‘block party’ and concert in September thanks to the Riverside Downtown Partnership and the Riverside Arts Council.
This larger gala, called the Riverside Art and Music Festival, will celebrate talent in our area and will be free to attend.
The daylong event will offer workshops, cultural performances, interactive demonstrations, and, new this year, Pokémon Go. There will be an instrument petting zoo and a chalk art exhibit. Local arts will be on hand to display their work and answer any questions. Many will want to get some business card printing done soon to be sure to have enough updated cards for distribution. Local organizations will have information available about their programs and services.
The highlight of the evening will be the free concert. Two local bands, Native Thieves and Castle Pines will be the opening acts for the main performance, which this year will be American Idol Season 8 finalist Allison Iraheta.
The Riverside Art and Music Festival is scheduled for Saturday, September 17 from 3:00 pm until 10:00 pm and will take place in Downtown Riverside. University Avenue will be closed from Market Street to Lemon for the event. The concert will begin at 6:00 pm and Iraheta will perform around 8:00 pm.
