Riverside summer sizzles with cook off

Riverside summers would not be complete without cookouts and the 20th Annual Burnt Offerings BBQ Competition and Festival coming on the 4th of July weekend should fill the bill.

West Coast Pitmasters from the BBQ Pitmaster television show, the food network channels, and Netflix will be battling for the Grand Champion title, prizes and thousands of dollars in cash in the Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned 4-meat Master Series. Competition will be in four categories - Chicken, Pork, beef brisket and pork ribs.

Amateur BBQ teams will be competing in the 2-meat Backyard Contest. A couple of racks of pork spareribs and a whole chicken will be provided for each team.
A dessert competition will be a perfect ending for California's longest running BBQ competition. BBQ will be available for purchase from local vendors, and the venue will also feature music, kid's activities (including bounce houses) and games.

Entry fees for the Backyard competition will be $200. Fees for the Masters Series 18x30 or 18x40 will be $350, and the 18x60 Masters Series fees will be $400 per team.

Winning teams in competitions like these often have their pictures taken to local Print shops to be added to culinary magazines and hometown newsletters.

Volunteers will be needed for set-up, kitchen prep, judges' helpers, baked goods, cleanup and teardown, and parking.

Free for attendees, the Burnt Offerings BBQ Competition and Festival will be held Saturday, June 29th beginning at 10:00 am and winding down around 2:00 pm at Magnolia Church, 8351 Magnolia Avenue.
