What's Happening in Riverside, CA…

Riverside set for the switch

This year, the city will host the 23rd Annual Riverside Festival of Lights. The switch-on ceremony will mark the beginning of the 2015 holiday season.

The event will offer visitors who travel downtown a host of family friendly entertainment options to help make the season more festive for everyone.

The festival will begin with festive activities early in the day. It will conclude with the official flipping of a switch that will cause more than three and a half million colored lights, all adorning government and commercial buildings downtown, to suddenly come to life. It will be the culmination of an effort by the Greater Riverside Chamber of Commerce and many volunteers.

Flipping the switch marks the beginning of festivities downtown that will include events at the ice skating rink, photos with Santa, horse carriage rides, an artisans’ collective, and a wide variety of other soon-to-be-announced entertainment options. Those that plan to attend will need to dress warmly and may want to bring a camera for capturing images that might be used to make custom holiday cards.

The festivities leading to the switch-on will start at noon on November 27, with the switch being thrown at 4:30 pm outside the Mission Inn Hotel and Spa, 3649 Mission Inn Avenue, Riverside. Other festival activities will run at various times and days throughout the holiday season. Information for each can be found at the event web site.
