The 2020 Riverside Dickens Festival, coming toward the end of February, will transform Downtown Riverside into Charles Dickens’s London. The 29th annual literary event has been created to provide educational entertainment and to promote literacy.
A fundraiser, Mr. Pickwick Plays Pirate Pub Night, will precede the festival on February 15 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at the First Congregational Church of Riverside, 3504 Mission Inn Avenue. Taste of the Town will cater the gourmet buffet. There will be a silent auction and music will be presented by Terry Boyles and Tea and Strumpets.
The London Marketplace will have vendors selling everything that pertains to the time period. This may include clothing, jewelry, home décor, music, Books, art, and kitchen gadgets.
Other activities will include Pickwick’s Pub Night Fun, The Victorian Tea Room & Music Hall, the Authors’ Salon, and Evensong. Children can experience Oliver’s Alley and everyone will want to turn out for Mr. Fezziwig’s Ball.
Families that attend events such as this often dress up and have pictures taken. Sometimes, these pictures go to Stationery printers to become part of the family’s calendar for the following year.
Dickens Fest will take place Saturday, February 22 and Sunday, February 23 from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm in front of City Hall on Main Street at 11th Street and University Avenue and throughout Downtown Riverside.
