The Riverside Philharmonic will be presenting an eclectic family-friendly concert “The Carnival of Animals” as part of its 2018-2019 Season in March.
The program will begin with three excerpts from Alec Wilder’s “The Octets”. The first one will be Dance Man Buys a Farm, the second Such a Tender Night and the third Jack, This is my Husband.
Highlighting the orchestra’s lyrical and powerful wind section, a Dvorak work, Serenade for Winds in d minor, Op. 44, comes next followed by three more selections from Wilder’s “The Octets”. This time the selections will be Sea Fugue Mama, Seldom in the Sun and It’s Silk-Feel it!
The evening will culminate with Saint-Saens famous “The Carnival of the Animals” narrated by Byron Adams, UCR Professor of Music.
Tickets will be $50 for Main Orchestra seats and $35 for Rear orchestra. Children in grades K through 12 can get complimentary tickets when they are accompanied by paying adults.
This would be a good introduction to classical music for young children, and pictures of children at such a concert can be taken to local Print shops or Stationery printers to become the March entry for family Calendars.
The concert is scheduled for Saturday, March 9th at the Henry W. Coil, Sr. and Alice Edna Coil School for the Arts, 3890 University Avenue. The curtain goes up at 7:30 pm and the performance should end around 10 pm.
