Anyone living in Riverside or the surrounding area won’t want to miss the 21st annual Riverside Festival of Lights. Well underway now, the show is held for five weeks during the holidays and includes much more than just a spectacular light display. Also on offer are ice skating, entertainment, shopping, dining, visits with Santa Claus, and an Artisans Collective.
Visitors of all ages to the festival will almost certainly be dazzled by the myriad light displays (collectively there are more than two and a half million bulbs) from decorated trees to building outlines and other ornamentation—all made even more spectacular by the music that constantly fills the air—generating a feeling of holiday excitement. Just walking around in it all should be fun, as should shopping and/or ice skating at the city rink. Visitors will likely want to take a lot of pictures which can be used for postcard printing. Previews of the area can be seen via City View and Rink webcams.
The Artisans Collective is an arts market where revelers can purchase original art from local artists, listen to local musicians and participate in free workshops.
The Festival of Lights has been running since November 29 and will continue on through January 4 in downtown Riverside on Main Street. Its purpose is to provide a rich holiday experience for visitors and to generate revenue for downtown merchants. To make things as easy as possible for visitors, the city is providing several types of parking, from metered spaces, to lots and garages.
