Riverside goes to the ballet
The World Ballet Company will be presenting its new production of The Great Gatsby Ballet towards the end of February.
The cast of 40 professional dancers from the U.S. and 10 other countries will be presenting an interpretation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's highly regarded novel, which was penned in 1925 and benefited from a surge of popularity during World War II, by which time the author had passed away.
Principle dancers will be performinh the roles of Jay Gatsby (a wealthy young entrepreneur), Nick Carraway (narrator), Daisy Buchanan (Gatsby's love interest and wife of Tom Buchanan), Tom Buchanan (Daisy's husband), Jordan Baker (a female friend of the Buchanans), Myrtle Wilson (wife of George B. Wilson and love interest of Tom Buchanan), George B. Wilson (Myrtle's husband), and Meyer Wolfsheim (Gatsby's friend and business partner). Attendees can expect lavish sets and hand-crafted costumes.
The production has been created by Anna Drubich (composer), Ilya Zhivoy (choreographer), Sonya Bartanyan (costume designer), Sergey Novikov (production designer), Bruno Lavenere (set designer) and director Sasha Gorskaya. Tickets run from $63 to $150. Theater companies have to get their program brochure printing done in plenty of time before performances.
The performance of The Great Gatsby will be Saturday, February 22 at the Fox Performing Arts Center, 3801 Mission Inn Avenue. Doors will open at 6:00 pm and the performance will begin at 7:00 pm.
