Louis Robidous Parkland and Pecan Grove here in Riverside will be offering Planting California Natives, a California native plants workshop, in mid-January.
The in-person event will examine the significance of native plants to California’s ecosystem, how to use the plants in gardens, and how using native landscaping will reduce water bills.
Master Gardner, Marianne Hugo will discuss tricks and tips for successful planting, and demonstrate tried-and-true techniques. She will discuss selection, pollinator habitats, mulching, soil, and installation of plants.
Although tickets will be free, attendees must RSVP to reserve a spot to receive free food.
Since this will be an outdoor workshop, and although the discussion part of the event will be under a canopy, guests are encouraged to wear hats, sunscreen and closed-toed walking/hiking footwear as the demonstration will be in an exposed sun area. Guests are advised to bring their own bottles so they can fill up from a large on-site water jug.
After the workshop part of the event, attendees will be asked a few questions and get their names entered into a raffle taking place at the end of the morning.
Presenters at events such as this may take pictures of colorful tasteful gardens and landscapes to local Print shops to be made into Posters and Banners to illustrate their talks.
Planting California Nativies has been scheduled for Saturday, January 20 from 10:00 am to noon, at 5370 Riverview Drive.
