Riverside Dickens Festival goes online this year

The annual Riverside Dickens Festival normally taking place in Historic Downtown Riverside at Mission Inn and Main Avenue will be renamed Dickens Virtual Fest, and will come online this February.

The festival will continue celebrating the life and times of Charles Dickens and his subsequent influence on society.

Live lectures with topics like Victorian customs and historical battles, entertainment such as magic and vintage inspired music, and fashion shows will be part of the two-day festivities.

A virtual artist and vendor marketplace will offer all the Victorian and Steampunk merchandise that vendors usually sell at the in-person event.

There will be a Virtual Parade, for which videos of participants dressed in their Victorian or Steampunk best can be sent in before January 29th. Everyone is asked to enter the frame from left to right and wave, smile and walk in a way that is uniquely them, and make their video somewhere between 10 and 40 seconds long.

The event organizers are asking for individual donations and Corporate Gifts to be sure the festival continues next year. Although the event will be free, patrons are encouraged to buy $20 tickets online.

Riverside’s Dickens Virtual Fest will stream on eventeny.com Saturday, February 20 and Sunday, February 21 beginning at 1:00 pm. The marketplace will begin selling items at 9:30 am on the event days. The 15-minute Virtual Parade will be aired at noon on both days.
