Riverside dedicates day to its veterans

Later this month, Riverside residents will once again have an opportunity to salute the 137,000 local men and women who have served their country in the nation’s Armed Forces since World War II.

The City of Riverside invites everyone to its upcoming 9th Annual Salute to Veterans Parade. The Grand Marshal this year will be Riverside’s own Henry Coil Jr. Roughly 5,000 people are expected to line the route this year.

The tribute parade will wind its way through the area, starting at the Riverside Community College campus and ending at the Historic Riverside County Court house. Flyovers will include a Huey UH ‘Slick’ Slikorsky helicopter, a C-17, S T-34 airplane, and an AFG Flight. Banner printing will be a big item in local Print shops prior to the parade, as about 130 units are expected to fly their Banners in this year’s activity.

Featured in the parade will be children’s drill teams, military and high school bands and choirs, and antique cars filled with veteran marines, airmen, soldiers, and sailors. There will also be various floats, bagpipe ensembles, K-9 units, equestrian units, color guards, veteran service organizations, and a range of car and motorcycle clubs.

The Veteran’s Parade will start promptly at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 19, in Downtown Riverside and is expected to run until midday.
