Riverside celebrates Lunar New Year

Downtown Riverside will be the location of the 2021 Lunar Festival coming at the end of January 2021. This will be the second year the City of Riverside and Panana Events have teamed up to present this festival.

Over 100 merchandise and food vendors will be onsite. Most will be hawking Chinese-type trinkets, other merchandise and traditional Chinese New Year food such as noodles, dumpling, and spring rolls.

Many passersby often ask vendors like these, whose merchandise or food items they particularly enjoy, for their updated Business Cards. That way they can purchase items from the vendor at a later date.

Entertainment will include Lion Dancers, Shaolin King Fu, a Chinese instrument orchestra, and other cultural performances. The stage will hold a Cosplay Contest too. All costumes and cosplayers are encouraged to participate.

This year’s celebration marks the Year of the Metal Ox. According to Chinese lore, babies born this year will grow up to be strong, diligent, determined, and dependable.

Although the event will be free, it is a good idea to register at the event website to be sure to get admission into the venue.

Riverside Lunar Festival will take place Downtown Riverside on Mission Inn Avenue between Orange and Lime from 11:00 am until 9:00 pm on Saturday, January 30, and again on Sunday, January 31 from 11:00 am until 7:00 pm.
